Bruna is a multidisciplinary artist from Brazil, based in Abu Dhabi. On top of sustaining an arts practice, she assists various arts events and installations with logistics and curation. She holds a B.A. in Art & Art History from NYU Abu Dhabi.

Artist Statement
Through painting and mixed media, I reinterpret family memories and national history, often expanding simplistic portrayals of Afro-Brazilian culture and womanhood. I draw inspiration from theories, stories, and photographs, transforming them with mixed media and video.
As I grew up in the outskirts of São Paulo, my art was shaped by the fast rhythm of my mom’s hands sewing clothes for neighbors, my aunts’ voices echoing in the kitchen, and the sensory overload of crowded buses. That vividness and struggle of daily life contrasted with the absence of these stories in the privileged academic spaces I occupied. Art became my way of valuing these experiences in more contexts, exploring the power of representation.
